i bought this for my bike that cost £3500 a few years ago but still retains a high quality compared to bikes costing £2000 today,it really is the best security you can get without it getting impractable to carry,but beware it still weighs qiute a bit,but theres something nice knowing that if it did get an attack the only thing that would bend or kink would be the bolt cutters!!
got the chain with a ss50cs closed shakle which makes a perfect set, a awesome padlock but again weight may be an issue.backpack definatly needed to carry it, but this set up gives me total peace of mind.

Wow, heavy duty chain bought for home security. Bike is stored outside in a shed and so I wanted a real deterrent. This things is meaty and I cannot see how they would attack it without causing a lot of fuss. Just be aware that this is a big heavy chain to handle!

Bought the 13mm chain a while back after seeing some tests and reviews on it. Live in a high crime area, had several bikes stolen, but since having this beast wrapped round my pride and joy I haven't had any problems. I think the looks are usually enough to scare mose potential thieves off but knowing it's also upto the job if someone wanted to try and have my bike gives me peace of mind. Top buy, bit bulky but you can't have a beast like this and expect it to be only a few grams. 5*

Looked and searched for a security chain and came across the Protector, was sold on the helpfulness of the site and information.
Ordered at 4.30pm but was a mistake on my order. Stephen called me to clarify the error and had it shipped that night. By 8am I had the item and am more than amazed at the quality of the goods and that people still believe in best service. Bought the 13mm after my bike from stolen from a locked bike storage unit, the door and the locks on the bike were cut with bolt croppers.

Two months after the purchase (and a move into a new building) the bike room was broken into with two substantial metal security doors cut through. I'm pleased to say the 13mm suffered only minor scratches from the croppers. Very pleased just ordered the 11mm version for when I have to lock the bike up at work.

Had bikes nicked before and now realise how undersecured they were.

Looking back for how I have it configured should have got the large link at the end to act as noose, however I now just use 2 locks instead (one each end) for same result

I bought an 11mm chain and lock package last year so when I needed a more substantial chain there was no doubt that it had to be a Pragmasis. This chain is another cracker and if you are serious about security you are not going to be disappointed. With this fitted to a ground anchor it would be very very difficult for a thief to steal your beloved mountain bike. Pragmasis will continue to be my first port of call as they give me the security and quality I demand at reasonable prices. Delivery again was next day. Don't hesitate to buy this chain as its an investment well worth making.

This 13mm chain and lock combo is the works. I was musing about getting the 16mm but the 13mm is more than serious enough for any road bike. The 16mm is more likely to damage your bike (especially if carbon) than protect it so stick with the 13mm. The lock is pretty serious and there's a snug fit between chain and lock so no room for leverage attacks.

I also went for the noose option. To be honest, I couldn't quite work out the benefit until I read the helpful article on this site (under how to use the chain and lock). The noose ring (an oversized loop at one end) enables you to have two locked circuits of chain rather than just one. At one end, the chain loops around the anchor point and through the noose ring, then the other end uses the normal end of the chain to loop through any other part of the chain. You then attach the lock and voila!

Hi, can't say how much help Steve was prior to purchase. Went into great detail of what was best for me, was going to buy the 16mm chain however when I told Steve I was going to use it for a European tour he advised me on the 13 mm chain, I'm glad I listened to him. Perfect..

We had 9 bikes stolen from a locked garage with each bike individually locked with stainless steel security cable. Unfortunately the cable was no match for bolt cutters . . . .
Now using this - terrific product and certainly won't be cut with any bolt cropper!

Got this chain for my mountain bike, so glad I read the 'What chain size' before as I was thinking of going for the heavier 16mm chain but after getting the 13mm chain I can see that there would be no way for a bigger chain to fit between the spokes. This 13mm chain is super heavy and this together with the Torc ground anchor and the Squire padlock my bike should be able to withstand anything that is thrown at it. Great service and delivery too!

Ordered via telephone. Very helpful advice on which gauge chain to buy and it came within 48 working hours. Used one of these chains previously and it saved equipment at a recent burglary when other chains were bolt cut.

I've got a rival brand hexagonal 11mm chain & lock & it seems flimsy in comparison but the Protector is not at all unwieldy

I did a fair bit of research regarding chains for protecting my bike. There's really only a couple of manufacturers worth considering. Pragmasis promptly responded to any of emails, while the same can't be said for their main competitor.

Even with the added cost of shipping to Australia, the total price was still lower than what our local retailers were charging for vastly inferior chains.

If you want to make your bike a difficult target, Pragmasis is the best way to go. Great customer service. Thanks

Got my 120cm, 13mm chain this weekend, and it is a seriously solid chain.

Making my "old" Oxford XL 12mm chain look a bit flimsy/tiny. Seems to weigh about the same as the Oxford chain I got with same length, but feels much more solid.

I bought this due to the recommendation by cycling plus and the Police.
The chain is well made, nicely finished and certainly looks the part.
I am pleased with it though, obviously, I will only know if it works when the bike does not get stolen.

Ended up going with Security for bikes because of the informative website and practical details around bicycle security for high value bikes. The cycle sites don't seem to cater for this and motorbike security advice isnt always applicable.

Had considered a 16mm chain prior to reading the advice here. So glad I didn't. The 13mm is massive and only just goes through rear wheel and triangle of my road bike. Went for a noose chain too which was great way to save a bit of money on length of chain I needed. Not seen any one else do this.

It's as strong as it could be. If someone breaks it then they are determined. Customer service cannot be faulted in any way, excellent.

Feels a bit fraudulent posting a review of the chain on this site as like most of the other reviewers I have no idea how secure the chain actually is. Bit like insurance really, you hope never to actually find out.
Having said which it does seem very beefy, fits the padlock well and should be good.
Steve at Pragmasis is great to deal with and their service is excellent.
The only really useful bit of info I can give is BUY A CHAIN LONGER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED. I bought a 2.5m length against my better judgement and it turned out to be frustratingly short for locking two bikes securely to the front axle of the van, or for locking four bikes (all wheels) to a fence etc.
I coughed up again and bought a 4m lock which is brilliantly easy to use, no need to jam the bikes together to get the chain round.

Fantastic advice and service. These guys know there stuff and go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the customer's needs are met.

Like one of the other comments here - I feel like a fraud for reviewing a product that hopefully won't be compromised.

Like the heading says the chain is a serious bit of kit. Whatever this chain is wrapped around is not getting stolen! Tough, well made, very visible. Excellent!

I bought the 4m length of this chain after using string to work out how long it needed to be to go through 4 bikes in a bike circle - 4m is just right. The chain looks very heavy and well made - much stronger than expensive ones from Oxford and Abus I previously owned. I've now ordered a 2.5m one for another shed! Anyone thinking they the 16mm for bicycles needn't worry - this is definitely strong enough and thicker than the majority of motorbike locks, let alone bicycle ones. I also googled this and reviews are consistently great - would strongly recommend.
