Delivery charges aside at just under £150 for a 2.0m 16mm chain and padlock I’d say this is the ideal entry package into the heavier security chains on the current market. For that you get the new Roundlock and not a squire, but what does that mean? Well, saving money on the padlock isn’t all as bad as you might allow yourself to imagine. With the extra money you could have saved perhaps add the addition of a noose chain to your order to allow you that little bit of extra length that one day while out and about away from home might come in handy.

While I’ve not owned the squire (SS65CS) I can say that while the Roundlock (RL21) is cheaper it isn’t, or doesn’t, feel as such. An alternative spin on things is that the padlock, both ends, rotate and therefore, I believe, the aim is to make it harder for portable grinders to get a grip and cut into the lock whereas a normal padlock, squire included, would sit there like a coach potato and defend the attack until it couldn’t take any more and eventually end up with a cut shackle. Do keep in mind that you’re never going to win all these arguments because as with all padlocks when there’s a will there’s a way and I’m sure they’re all capable of having their locks picked. Then again the same can be said about the chain because while it cannot be cropped, so it’s said, by hand it can still be cut through by a portable grinder. It’s a design flaw of any chain and therefore you must not confuse yourself into thinking you’ve got the best of the rest with this but much rather it allows an attack to be prolonged as opposed to a cheap from the shop chain such as Oxford or alike that wouldn’t last all that long.. I won’t compare the two since this is in a different league altogether.

One thing I would like to point out for you to take into consideration before you order is the length of the chain and what your intended purpose is. If you’re someone who’s going to be using this for at home security only then order what length you like however if you’re planning to carry this around then I’d consider carefully if 2.0m is enough for you or if you should go down a notch and get a 13mm instead. While a 13mm doesn’t offer as much as a 16mm it might be lighter on the bike and for that I ask you to weight up the pro’s and con’s and what you feel comfortable securing your bike with. Buy something that if your bike gets stolen you did all you could and didn’t cheap out.

The reason I say consider no more than 2.0m 16mm if your intention is to carry it around is because of the weight. Combined with the Roundlock a 2.0m comes in at just under 10kg for a single chain alone, that’s not light by any means. A topbox bolted directly to the sub frame or a very secure tailpack is the only two ways I would entertain carrying this on a daily basis. In terms of physical weight you’ll be glad to know that 10kg is nothing and picking the chain to put up in a bag and getting it out is no trouble at all, dependant on you of course.

If you’re going to use the chain while out and about then I’d think more about what you’re going to chain this to than anything since in most cases I’d imagine it would be easier to cut that object as opposed to the chain, might make less noise and take less time in the process.

After using a 13mm as my main chain to secure the bike for a while now that I’ve got a 16mm to side by side compare it with I wouldn’t go out without it. A 13mm is no slouch and will offer you a decent level of protection vs most people that just secure their bikes with a disc lock and steering lock, of which both can easily be broken in no time at all. Thing is if someone wants your bike then regardless they’ll have it so purchase what your pocket and mind is comfortable with.

I would also like to point out that a negative in regards to the Roundlock is that you have to have slack in the chain to secure it and that’s because the Roundlock requires to be pushed into the middle of the link to be secured while you hold both ends of the lock to then twist the key and secure it. At home for the most part it’s no problem because you’re not parked a million miles away from your unmoveable object but out and about you’ve not always got that luxury. For this reason if you get this package I’d say adding the addition of a noose link, while costs more, might save you having to jiggle your bike closer to the lamppost/whatever or wishing you’d purchased either a longer 16mm or a lighter and longer 13mm, all swings and roundabouts. There’s method in the madness the Roundlock but it’s not as easy as wresting with the shackle of a squire through a tight space and you’re done. Fair to say you need about ten hands to secure it I’d say.

In terms of effect that a just under 10kg chain has on the bike I ask you take into consideration that at the same time I’m also carrying a 13mm and tools plus some bits, every commute is an adventure. Coming from a 2.5m 13mm chain I’d say the weight is a lot more noticeable and effects each part of the ride. What I cannot answer is if I’m still adjusting, after only a few rides, to the weight increase or if I’ll eventually go back to a 13mm, only time will tell. While a 16mm is great it’s not for everyone. I’m on a 200kg + bike and for anyone looking at using this on a lightweight 125cc or alike I wouldn’t bother, perhaps upset the balance of the bike? You won’t know until you try it and if anything you get a decent stay at home chain at the very least if it doesn’t work out. It’s not impossible to ride around with but it’s noticeable, needs more rides with to add anything else.

really pleased with the chain although had to order new anchor due to its size.its not something you could carry around with you .my only gripe would be that you need three hands and the patience of a saint to do the lock up [Pragmasis Comment: If you feel like making contact, we will see if we can offer any tips on fitting the lock.]

I purchased this for use with my Torc ground anchor as there is no point in having the best ground anchor fitted with an inferior chain. It is not a chain you would use as a mobile security device due to it's weight but for home security it is perfect. The combination of the chain and the Roundlock fitted through a Torc anchor on the wall behind the bike is the perfect solution for home security. All three items are thoroughly recommended and the service from Pragmasis is second to none!

Returning for the third time to purchase more security gear (as the bike collection grows, so does the security).
This time it is 16mm noose and a 13mm noose as they are really flexible in the noose configuration.This time after watching the review from Bennetts for a lock I bought roundlocks and am really impressed and are probably as strong as a squire at over twice the price.
A big thank you for the quality of service, as I had to phone and amend my order at mid-day but it was still delivered to my door in under 24hrs from the phone call.

The lock and chain turned up less than 48 hours from ordering, well packaged, and with great communications from SFB. The chain is really well made and the roundlock is properly solid; handily it doubles up as a disc lock as well (although it's quite chunky so this option won't work if you've a smaller bike with lesser diameter discs as it fouls the hub; something to bear in mind).

upgraded from my old 13mm chain with cisa padlock that is still ok but times have moved on so ordered the 16mm chain with roundlock as this can also be used as disc lock , weight 8kg not sure how I will carry it on the bike but will find a solution, very happy with the speedy delivery and quality product makes my old chain look feeble.

I was surprised by the sheer size of the 16mm chain. It's Huuuuge. Ahah. I can't even imagine the 19mm and 22mm chains. Anyway, I'm very please with this chain, I will probably sleep more comfortably at night, despite having the motorcycle insured against theft. But knowing that I won't need to go through all that insurance nuisance, just makes up for this chain.

Did a lot of research into which chain to secure my bike with. Pragmasis came out on top due to their high quality product. When you pick up the chain you can tell it is very strong and the lock is just as sturdy. I collected from their factory - they were very friendly and helpful.

Ordered this 16mm chain and RL21 padlock from germany for my BMW GS: Great and very heavy chain with a formidable RL21 padlock (ordered just another one to make two small loops for example). Although the chain is heavy (more than my normal luggage) its IMHO a good balance between the quality, price and weight. No problem to take it with me (topcase and two big side boxes). By the way, fast delivery and highly recommended stuff!

I ordered the 2M 16mm chain and RL21 padlock at around 5:30pm and has an email response almost straight away from David with information as to when my order would be sent, and it arrived bang on time. I've been using the chain and lock for just over 1 month now and it's been brilliant. It looks the part, and has enough length to lock to the floor or loop around the wheel and frame.
It is a heavy old lump, and I can really notice when it's in my top box, but for the peace of mind it's worth it 100%.

I bought a second one with the Key a like option and will use the second as a disk lock. Very very solid and looks far stronger than my abus disk lock which was three times the price.
