We offer two main fitting types for security ground anchors: expanding bolts and resin fixings. Both create a secure installation, but they work in different ways and suit different substrates.

Expanding bolts

Most ground anchors are supplied with expanding bolts.

To fit them, you drill a hole, insert the anchor shield, add the bolt and then tighten it. As the bolt winds into the shield, the shield expands and presses firmly against the sides of the hole. This expansion force creates the secure fixing.

Expanding bolts are generally best suited to solid, good-quality concrete or brick.

An expanding bolt may not be the best choice if you are drilling into brickwork close to a corner, edge or end of a wall. In these positions, the expansion force can put pressure on the brickwork and may cause it to crack.

Resin fixings

We supply resin either in individual capsules or in a larger injection resin tube.

To fit a resin fixing, you drill the hole, insert the resin capsule or apply resin from the tube, and then wind the bolts into place. The resin fills the space around the bolt and, once cured, bonds the fixing securely into the substrate.

If you are drilling into good-quality concrete, resin capsules are usually suitable because the resin will stay in the hole. Each resin capsule contains around 10ml of resin.

If you are drilling into porous, cracked, old or poor-quality concrete, injection resin is usually the better option. The larger tube allows you to use more resin, helping to fill gaps, improve the fixing area and create a stronger bond. The injection resin tube contains 150ml of resin, giving you enough resin to apply a more generous amount where needed.

To sum up

As a general guide: use expanding bolts for strong, solid substrates; use resin capsules for clean holes in good concrete; and use injection resin when the substrate is older, more porous or less consistent.
