What size chain fits the ABUS Granit Extreme 59?
The Abus Granit Extreme 59 features a 16mm square parabolic shackle, which typically measures up to ~19 mm with its coating. Because this is narrower than the internal link openings of all Protector chains, it will fit all Pragmasis Protector chain sizes — including 11 mm, 13 mm, 16 mm, 19 mm and 22 mm.
Why shackle thickness matters for fit
When pairing a chain with a D-lock, the key measurement is the thickness of the shackle, including any protective coating. The shackle must be able to pass cleanly through the internal width of a chain link for the lock to be ueasily sable with that chain.
Your Protector chains have the following internal link widths (nominal):
11mm Protector: ~20mm internal width
13mm Protector: ~22mm internal width
16mm Protector: ~30mm internal width
19mm Protector: ~25mm internal width
22mm Protector: larger still
Because even the smallest Protector chain has an internal width of ~20mm — and the coated shackle on the ABUS Granit Extreme 59 is approximately 19mm or less — the shackle will pass through these chain links.
How this works in practice
In everyday use, all Protector chains will accept the Granit Extreme 59’s shackle without clearance issues based on thickness.
Measuring your chain and lock (quick guide)
If you want to check this yourself:
Use a ruler or vernier calipers to measure the internal width of a chain link at its narrowest point.
Compare that to the shackle thickness of the lock (including any protective coating).
If the shackle dimension is smaller than the chain’s internal width, the lock will pass through the chain link.
This simple measurement approach ensures compatibility regardless of brand names or model numbers.
