I've got a worn, bent or broken key

Updated on Oct 12, 2026

There are those who have broken a key or those who will break a key. Accidents happen!

Some keys are more prone to being bent than others. The keys supplied with Pragmasis locks are designed to withstand day-to-day abuse but you can still wear them out if your lock has not been regularly lubricated.

We recommend a silicone or teflon-based lube. Something like a bicycle chain lube will work well.

If you have bent your key, do not try to straighten it, especially in the lock itself. Our advice is to take it to a locksmith who should be able to straighten the key and then create a copy for you.

You can easily order a replacement key blank from us.

Which Squire key blank do I need?

The correct blank depends on the lock’s cylinder and key profile. Older standard keys and restricted R1 keys are different. A restricted key from another supplier (for example Almax) may use a different profile again, even if the lock looks similar.

Send us clear photographs of both sides of the key and your key card, if available. Include the lock model and where it was bought so we can help identify the correct option.

Do not buy a blank just because its shape looks approximately right. If your key is damaged, avoid forcing it in the lock or repeatedly using it as it may break.
