Can I secure two bikes with one ground anchor?

Updated on Oct 13, 2026

Yes. An anchor with sufficient clearance can accommodate a separate chain for each bike, allowing either bike to be unlocked independently.

Which combinations fit the Torc Mega?

The Torc Mega accommodates these Protector chain combinations:

Chain combination

Fit

Two 19mm chains

Easy

One 22mm and one 19mm

Tight, but fits

One 22mm, one 16mm and one 13mm

Fits

Two 19mm and one 16mm

Tight, but fits

Two 19mm and one 13mm

Easy

Three 16mm and one 13mm

These combinations apply to the Torc Mega. Other manufacturer's anchors have different clearances, and another manufacturer’s chain may have different outside link dimensions.

Where should I put the anchor?

For bikes parked side by side, an anchor between them can make it easier to use a separate chain for each bike. Check both complete locking routes before drilling.

Keep exposed slack to a minimum and use the bikes to obstruct access to the chains and anchor where practical. Make sure either bike can be removed without leaving the other unsecured.

Can I use one chain for both bikes?

One sufficiently long chain can pass through suitable parts of both bikes and a suitable anchor, provided the whole arrangement closes securely. Measure the complete route with the bikes in their normal parking positions, allowing for the chain's bulk and the space needed to close the lock.

The disadvantage is that unlocking the shared chain may release both bikes. Separate chains can make it easier to remove one bike while keeping the other secured.

If you link the bikes together without a fixed anchor, they become harder to lift and separate, but they are not attached to the parking location. Use a suitable fixed point whenever practical.

This advice is for parked bikes. Securing bicycles to a vehicle rack for transport also requires the rack manufacturer's carrying and restraint instructions.
