Which Pragmasis chains fit the Oxford Grinder S1 and S2?
The Oxford Grinder S1 and S2 are angle-grinder-resistant D-locks with square, carbide-coated shackles. Both locks carry Sold Secure Powered Cycle and Pedal Cycle Diamond ratings.
Although the two models look similar, the S2 has a substantially thicker finished shackle and therefore requires a chain with greater internal clearance.
Oxford Grinder S1
The Oxford Grinder S1 has a 14mm hardened-steel shackle core. Including its protective coating and silicone sleeve, the main section of the shackle measures approximately 19 × 19mm.
The S1 shackle has two visibly different thicknesses. One section has a thinner outer sleeve so that it can locate in the carrying bracket supplied by Oxford.
However, the narrower bracket section is not needed to make the lock fit our chain. The 13mm Pragmasis chain will slide over the thicker, fully sleeved section of the S1 shackle.

Oxford Grinder S2
The larger Oxford Grinder S2 has a 16mm hardened-steel shackle core. Its finished, sleeved shackle measures approximately 26 × 26mm.
This is too large to pass through the links of our 13mm chain. The Grinder S2 does, however, fit through the larger links of our 16mm chain without needing to remove or trim its protective sleeve.

Oxford Grinder lock dimensions
The Grinder S1 is available in two lengths:
- S1 Short: approximately 188 × 115mm internal locking area
- S1 Long: approximately 247 × 115mm internal locking area
The Grinder S2 has an internal locking area of approximately 247 × 114mm.
The finished shackle measurements are approximately:
- Grinder S1: 19 × 19mm
- Grinder S2: 26 × 26mm
These finished measurements are the most relevant when checking chain compatibility because they include the protective material surrounding the steel shackle.
