What size chain fits the ABUS Granit Super Extreme 2500?

Updated on Jan 06, 2026

ABUS states the Granit Super Extreme 2500 uses a 31×28 mm thick shackle. Because this is a very large shackle profile, it will not fit through smaller chain links. It may fit through some larger-link chains, but compatibility depends on the chain’s internal link opening.

How this compares to our chain link openings (internal width):

Protector 11mm (20mm): No

Protector 13mm (22mm): No

Protector 16mm (30mm): Likely, but it will be a tight fit

Protector 19mm (25mm): No

Measuring a chain to see if it will fit

To check compatibility yourself, measure the internal width of a chain link at its narrowest point using vernier calipers or a ruler. This tells you whether your shackle will slide through a chain link.

What to do if you own this lock and want a chain to fit it:

Owners of the Abus Super Extreme 2500 have made it work with our Protector 16mm and 19mm chains by cutting a small amount of the rubber coating from the D-lock's shackle.

This doesn't affect the lock's ability to withstand an attack and allows it to work with our chains. A good tip is to cut a bit of the protective coating away from one end of the shackle where it meets the lock body. You can then look your chain link through a link on the other end of the chain and then pass this single link onto the shackle where it can be secured (and the part you've trimmed from the shackle will be covered by the chain).
